Dr. Aklilu H/MichaelDr. Aklilu Hailemichael is the Executive Director of Tigray Development Association since June 2020. The Tigray Development Association, TDA, is an independent, non-political, non-religious, non-profit,
non-governmental membership-based organization. Its vision is to assist in developing the region to see a society that is ultimately free of poverty. TDA aims to enhance the accessibility and quality of education and health services so that coming generations are knowledgeable, skilful, productive and able to create a prosperous future. In addition to this mission, TdA responds to crises in the region including via urgent fund-raising.

Prior to this post, Dr Aklilu Hailemichael was a State Minister for business diplomacy and diaspora affairs of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for almost three and a half years. His responsibilities included promotion of inbound Foreign Direct Investment, Export Trade, Technology Transfer, Tourism as well as diaspora engagement and protection of their rights in host countries.

Previously, Dr Aklilu was the Director General of the Federal Education Strategy Centre which had the mandate of providing policy and strategy support to the Ministry of Education in order to improve the quality and relevance of
the Ethiopian education system. In his capacity as Director General of the centre, Dr. Aklilu designed and implemented strategic research and development programs and initiatives to improve curriculum and leadership of higher education, and foster cooperation of Ethiopian Universities with various international partners.

He started his professional career in the agricultural sciences (Animal and Range Sciences) in his first degree in Mekelle University , continued his study in a similar field in his second degree in Wageningen University and Research Center of the Netherlands where he also completed his PhD degree in Technology and Agrarian Development in the Department of Social Sciences.
He worked as a lecturer and researcher in the College of Agriculture andNatural Resources in Mekelle University.

Apart from teaching and research, Dr. Aklilu also contributed to institutional building and development as a Vice-President of Aksum University for several years and as vice college dean at Mekelle University. He is also an adjunct associate professor in the College of Development Studies of Addis Ababa University.
